Fuse Units
Our range of street lighting fuse units (cut-outs) are covered under BS7654 and used for the protection of highway lighting and street furniture. All units are manufactured to comply with BS7654 and BS60947-1 as well as fully complying with the requirements of the Low Voltage Directive (LVD/73/223/EEC) and the Electromagnetic Compatibility Directive (EMC/336/EEC).

Every unit is manufactured in a high specification thermoplastic material, giving it the advantages of thermoplastics as well as meeting technical requirements that cannot currently be fully met by ABS.

Enclosure Systems
Primarily designed for the protection of highway lighting and street furniture Tofco's range of enclosures are suitable for 2, 3 & 4 Din-rail mounted modules. The units are manufactured to comply with BS60947-1 and in accordance with the I.E.E. 16th Edition as well as fully complying with the requirements of the Low Voltage Directive (LVD/73/223/EEC) and the Electromagnetic Compatibility Directive (EMC/336/EEC).

By offering a wide choice of modular components our range can be tailored to meet virtually any customer requirement from standard street lighting applications to timed festive lighting with RCD protection.

Load Conditioner Units    -  Patent Pending  -

As pressure increases on regional councils to cut costs, areas such as the maintenance and running costs of street lighting networks are becoming more closely scrutinised. Furthermore, as these budgets are being cut, the likelihood of malfunction and resultant legal action is increasing. Thus it continues to be important for councils to ensure that new lighting schemes are introduced and existing systems maintained in a safe and satisfactory condition at minimum cost.

Due to the increasing use of electronic lamp control devices such as electronic ballast products, communications systems and timers, there is a growing need to protect these devices as they are more susceptible to interference than the conventional electromechanical controls that were used until now.

With this in mind we have recently introduced a new product - the Load Conditioner Unit (LCU) which provides electronic protection of electrical devices from harmful variations in the input power supply.

As an example, the LCU limits the 'inrush current' present in a lighting system when the power is first in use. This is accomplished by 'randomizing' the switch-on time of the LCU so that no two lamps within a system can engage the mains power simultaneously. On-going conditioning of power is then maintained until the device(s) being protected is switched off. Resulting advantages of the use of LCU's include the increased lifespan of devices being protected and the fact that they are significantly more environmentally friendly than the older electromechanical devices which they supercede.
