OLEV Goverment Grant

If you're a UK resident looking to get a charging station installed for your electric car, you could be eligible for a big discount!

What is an OLEV Grant?

In the context of home charging, the "OLEV Grant" refers to a government grant for electric car home chargers, provided by the Office for Low Emission Vehicles (OLEV).

  • The OLEV Grant, specifically named the Electric Vehicle Homecharge Scheme (EVHS), which provides up to £350 off the cost of purchasing & installing a home charging point from 1st April 2020.
  • It’s available for most electric cars and plug-in hybrid cars, old or new.
  • You can claim one chargepoint per eligible vehicle and up to two eligible vehicles per household.
  • An additional grant of up to £300 is available to Scottish EV drivers via the Energy Savings Trust Scotland.
  • OLEV also offer the separate Workplace Charging Scheme (WCS) grant which can be claimed by any business, charity or public authority and provides up to £350 off the cost of purchasing & installing workplace chargingpoints, up to 40 sockets.

How do I qualify for the OLEV Grant?

To qualify for OLEV's EVHS grant, you need to have leased an eligible electric or plug-in hybrid vehicle (OLEV maintains a list of eligible vehicles here) for at least 6 months or have purchased one on or after 1st October 2016 onwards.

  • You must have off-street parking
  • You must install an OLEV-approved chargepoint
  • The date of installation must not be more than 4 months ahead of the date of delivery or the date the customer becomes the registered driver of the electric vehicle
  • You must use an OLEV-approved chargepoint installer

Fixed Cable Package: Every package includes the Elvi wall dock + Elvi charging station + Elvi charging cable.

Socket Package: Elvi Socket comes with 3-phase 32 A capacity by default to deliver up to 22 kW power. Every package includes the Elvi wall dock + Elvi charging station + Type 2 socket.

Components

Wall Dock: The Elvi wall dock provides a safe and modular grid connection and can be installed to create “EV ready” parking spaces. You can then (later) install the Elvi charging station (see below) by “clicking” it onto the wall dock – without requiring an electrician.

Charging Station: Elvi comes with 3-phase 32 A capacity by default to deliver up to 22 kW power.

Charging Cable: Elvi comes with an attached cable. The charging station side of the cable is customized to Elvi, while the type of plug on other side depends on your car. This side may be equipped with either a type 1 or Type 2 plug.

Tofco EV Isolator Units
On street charging is the most convenient way for EV drivers to charge their cars

Tofco have been in the business of supplying cable terminations for power supplies to lampposts for over 40 years & with an EV Isolator Unit, we can utilise this existing infrastructure to convert you standard lighting column in to an EV charging point or provide a sub-feed to a satellite charging point.

This solution takes advantage of existing infrastructure and provides the Local Authorities with a low-cost answer to rolling out on street charging for residents. Planning permission is not required.

To meet BS7671 your existing isolator will need to be upgraded and the supply converted to TT - unless you are considering the inclusion of an O-PEN devise with your distribution system.

The Type 2 EV isolator unit sits above the DNO supply and is provided with DNO tails, 1 x 6A 30mA Type A, C curve RCBO for an upward lighting circuit and 1 x 25A 30mA Type A, C curve RCBO for a downward spur circuit to an EV bollard.

The above units are also available for SWA supplies on a private cable network.

If your EV charging unit does not have DC leakage built in, you must use a Type B RCBO? we can also fit these units within our Isolator Range.

The column mounted EV charging points permit any EV driver to simply pull up to a charge-point and, using their mobile device or in-car connectivity, login to the charge-point and pay on the spot for its use.

Tofco can provide a complete solution from the EV Feeder Pillar & Panel, EV Isolator and a range of column mounted Elexon approved charging points. Only charge points with Elexon regulatory approval may be powered by unmetered public street lighting. Units can also be easily installed on other street furniture such as bollards and wall and pole mounted.

Units can be set up for open unmetered supply or commercial operation. Commercial charge points permit smartphone, contactless and RFID cashless payment. Tofco can also provide revenue collection services for charge point operators.
